I am about to go on my first retreat in two years and notice a lot of narratives in my head. You know, the stories we tell ourselves…
None of my friends are going.
I don’t know anyone there.
It’s going to rain.
I’ll be cold.
Why would I want to leave my oh so comfortable home?
How will the kids cope without me?
And the list goes on…yadi yadi yada
Why am I telling you this, you may ask?
Firstly, I am co-hosting my very first own retreat in August 2022 in Knysna, South Africa and I want you to come!
And secondly, I wish to remind myself of WHY I am (re)treating myself and with that I wish to inspire you to consider doing the same.
Going on a retreat does not necessarily mean to go all “hippie,” to join an ashram or disconnect for weeks and weeks from civilization. (Re)treating may also look like a 10-minute meditation, a walk in your neighbourhood, a yoga or gym session.
For me, to retreat means non-identification with thought, a break from Ego, to unplug from the matrix and to take a break from news and social media. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
(Re)treating can range from ten sacred minutes, a holy hour, to a magical couple of days. A time to create stillness and space in body and mind. A time to consciously fill up my cup.
As I write this, I notice my nervous system calming down and irrational fear subside.
I choose to (re)treat with intention as I get ready to leave. I choose to trust that I will be held and guided by a conscious process. I know that there will be silence, enlightenment, reflection, and plenty of meditation. There will be like-minded people seeking inner peace and calm. And I will make new friends for life.
I will swim in rockpools, climb up mountains and be in nature. I will be off the grid for a couple of days. I can’t wait to nurture and nourish my physical and mental body and come back refreshed, more enlightened, conscious, and inspired. Ready to make myself more useful and to continue my mission of empowering others to become their very best own version, to be more conscious and deliberate in creating the life they love to live.
PS: Do watch this space for my upcoming retreat. The date is set, and the venue is booked.
